El Respiro

Chicos!
Yesterday I went all around Madrid to find everything for my photoportfolio! It was horrible to find everything I needed :) But at the end Tiger saved me and now my photoportfolio is almost finished! But when I was waiting for my photos I went to Starbucks to drink this ddddelicious Fruit Frappucino with mango and pashion fruit! I took a picture of Callao, because it is one of the most famous places you'll see in Madrid. It is the center of the 'shopping district'.

In the evening, I went to a suuperfun tapas bar in Calle de las Infantas! It's called Respiro and it is absolutely great. When you order something to drink, you get like two  plates of tapas for free!! The atmosphere in the bar is also great, lots of young and Spanish people! Normally we wanted to go to El Tigre, that is the most famous tapas bar in Madrid, but it was closed! But Respiro certainly was just as great :)

Nostalgia in La Latina

Hey!

Recently I went to El Rastro with my one of my best friends Sofie! It was a great afternoon and we ate very good food! Afterwards Sofie and I went for a walk in La Latina, because we wanted to find the hotel were we stayed when we were looking for a 'piso' in Madrid. Walking around in there made us realize that it has already been almost 5 months since we stayed there and explored that neighbourhood. We became very nostalgic and it even became difficult not to cry :)

This is the first old-school tapas bar I ever went to in Madrid :)

We found the Hotel and it made me feel really weird to see it again after 5 months. Afterwards we walked to the metro of Puerta de Toledo the same way as we did that time and that made me really nostalgic. I could only wish that that walk was just the beginning.

But at this moment I'm only one week away of my departure from Madrid and I feel horrible about it :) and so does Sofie. That's why we decided to go and have a look at the most important places just one last time before we go home. A good song to explain how I feel about leaving is the song of Nelly Furtado - Why do all good things come to an end!
I will post more pictures and stories about my favourite places in Madrid that I went to see :)

Happy sundays at Rastro.

Hola amigos!

Yesterday Jasmien and I went to El Rastro, one of the most famous destinations on a sunday morning in Madrid. I left my 'piso' at half past 1 and took the metro to La Latina. On Rastro I bumped into Jasmien, who was strolling around with her roommates.

As Sofie, my other friend who accompagnied me to Rastro, her stomach was growling, we asked Jasmien if she knew a good place to eat something small in the neighborhood. So we went to 'El Capricho Extremeño' to eat some tapas. This restaurant seemed to be very famous for its food, because there was a line of almost 50 people waiting outside to get their food. We all tried different things, ranging from a piece of bread with some cheese and olive oil to a piece of bread with a Schnitzel with paprika on top. We ate our food at a square nearby, namely the square where normaly all the antiques are displayed, together with a lot of youngsters that were also enjoying the sunshine.

El Rastro is a typical Spanish market with lots of different kinds of products. On the one hand you have a part with all the new products, such as jewelry, leather jackets and bags, some hippie clothing and souvenirs to remind you of your wonderful trip to Madrid. On the other hand you have the part with the secondhand products such as chandeliers, porselain figurines, old polaroid cameras, secondhand toys and much more. Of course there are also numerous streetartists on El Rastro, for example yesterday there was a guy playing a didgeridoo and an old woman who was playing a hurdy-gurdy. Moreover you can also find a lot of typical Spanish people on Rastro, such as old women with their scarfs. Very lovely.

As Rastro is the place to be on a sunday morning, it is also the place were pickpocketers get together to steal from tourists, so you must be careful with your belongings. It is also very very crowded on Rastro, so you should go very early or very late, because in between it is almost impossible.
So now you know how perfect a sunday morning can be!
