Steve Jobs

'Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.'

You just have to read this wonderful article by Steve Jobs. It makes you think about your life and your standards. Maybe most of us should rethink them.

Follow your heart guys!

Memories

During my Erasmus in Madrid I went to the Newyear edition of the Goa Festival. It was really amazing! :) My favorite DJ that evening was Senor Lobos, a famous Spanisch DJ! He played all the right music. I just wanted to share with you guys one of the songs he played!

Alexa Chung is a real fashion icon. On every picture you find on the internet here style is impeccable.

And ohmy how do I love her hairstyle. Lately she changed to the ombre-hairstyle and I now I love her hair even more :)

BMW Ads.

BMW has some classic catchy ads. Here are some of my favourites :)

What if there were only 100 people on this planet?

This series of posters describes the differences on planet Earth in percentages. Some percentages are astonishing. For example half of all the 6 billion people on this planet are not free. Moreover more than half of the people do not have reliable sources of food. They are hungry most of the time.
Check the posters out on the link below!

Theremin.

Couple of weeks ago, I saw this youtube video on Facebook:

I was totally astonished by the beauty of the sound of the instrument, called a Theremin! I've never seen anything like this before, the intstrument sounds like a violin or the voice of an opera singer.
The instrument was designed in 1919 by Léon Theremin and became very popular. The woman you see in the video, Clara Rockmore, was one of his pupils. The Theremin is an instrument with two antennes and your hands have to move between those two antennas. The right hand affects the pitch of the tone and the left  hand affects the volume. Because it reacts very easily to movements, it is a very expressive instrument.
Also Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin played the theremin in his song Whole lotta love. It is the weird ufo-like sound when you hear when Robert Plant is singing his ' ah ah ah ah ah ah ah'

And here you see old Jimmy Page playing the Theremin:

Museum Night Fever

One week ago I went to Brussels, for Museum Night Fever. It is a festival with music, museums, exhibitions etc. Meaning that from 19h untill 01h you can visit 19 different museums for only 8 euros! And afterwards there is an afterparty in BOZAR, the palace for beautiful arts. Here three different dj's provide you with an incredible eargasm ( included in the 8 euros!! :) ). So when I heard about the festival I obviously had-to-go.
I went to 4 different museums, La Fonderie, Wiels, Musée d'art fantastique and Art & Marges museum.
To begin with we went to Wiels, an amazing museum, were you could 'pimp' your own Tshirts and get stickers! Offcourse you had to put the stickers on immediately, but I was able to get some the normal way! This musem also houses the brewhouse of Duvel, which is quite awesome ;) And over there I also ate some mean quiche!!

Afterwards we went to the Musée d'art fantastique because we heard that there would be some freak shows here! We waited in line for more than half an hour to discover there were NONE!!! We were awfully dissapointed!! The museum consists of fake puppets and attributes, but in the end, nothing special.. Except for the Robocop head.
The original head of the TERMINATOR
Then we went to the Art&Marges Museum, which was quite okay, but you know nothing special :) And last but not least we went to La Fonderie, the museum of industrialisation! This was by far the coolest museum! All those old machines, the bbq, the Oxfam fruit drinks... It was such a great place to chill out! We also spend there like almost 2 hours :)

To end our night we wanted to participate in the great afterparty, BUT offcourse there was no more room in BOZAR and we could have waited outside but it was fréézing, so we just went home.. :) That's kinda stupid because I really wanted to hear La Fille d'O play some music!

Too bad, but then again it was a great night! For those of you who were not able to go this year, go next year! :)

Back in Louvain

It has been three weeks now since my return back to Belgium and I'm still getting used to all the Belgian habits. It has been more difficult than I imagined  ! :)  There are not that many things to do in Louvain and I missed Retiro A LOT! That is why I went to Abdij van't Park in Heverlee, nearby Louvain. It is a Norbertine abbey and it was founded in 1129. The abbey provides its visitors with cultural heritage but there also is a nature park where you can take a little walk and enjoy the nature. I went there with my boyfriend and we had such a good time :)

This are some pictures of the domain. Hope you like them :) It is no Retiro, but I guess it is the next best thing in Louvain ;)

El Respiro

Chicos!
Yesterday I went all around Madrid to find everything for my photoportfolio! It was horrible to find everything I needed :) But at the end Tiger saved me and now my photoportfolio is almost finished! But when I was waiting for my photos I went to Starbucks to drink this ddddelicious Fruit Frappucino with mango and pashion fruit! I took a picture of Callao, because it is one of the most famous places you'll see in Madrid. It is the center of the 'shopping district'.

In the evening, I went to a suuperfun tapas bar in Calle de las Infantas! It's called Respiro and it is absolutely great. When you order something to drink, you get like two  plates of tapas for free!! The atmosphere in the bar is also great, lots of young and Spanish people! Normally we wanted to go to El Tigre, that is the most famous tapas bar in Madrid, but it was closed! But Respiro certainly was just as great :)

Nostalgia in La Latina

Hey!

Recently I went to El Rastro with my one of my best friends Sofie! It was a great afternoon and we ate very good food! Afterwards Sofie and I went for a walk in La Latina, because we wanted to find the hotel were we stayed when we were looking for a 'piso' in Madrid. Walking around in there made us realize that it has already been almost 5 months since we stayed there and explored that neighbourhood. We became very nostalgic and it even became difficult not to cry :)

This is the first old-school tapas bar I ever went to in Madrid :)

We found the Hotel and it made me feel really weird to see it again after 5 months. Afterwards we walked to the metro of Puerta de Toledo the same way as we did that time and that made me really nostalgic. I could only wish that that walk was just the beginning.

But at this moment I'm only one week away of my departure from Madrid and I feel horrible about it :) and so does Sofie. That's why we decided to go and have a look at the most important places just one last time before we go home. A good song to explain how I feel about leaving is the song of Nelly Furtado - Why do all good things come to an end!
I will post more pictures and stories about my favourite places in Madrid that I went to see :)

Happy sundays at Rastro.

Hola amigos!

Yesterday Jasmien and I went to El Rastro, one of the most famous destinations on a sunday morning in Madrid. I left my 'piso' at half past 1 and took the metro to La Latina. On Rastro I bumped into Jasmien, who was strolling around with her roommates.

As Sofie, my other friend who accompagnied me to Rastro, her stomach was growling, we asked Jasmien if she knew a good place to eat something small in the neighborhood. So we went to 'El Capricho Extremeño' to eat some tapas. This restaurant seemed to be very famous for its food, because there was a line of almost 50 people waiting outside to get their food. We all tried different things, ranging from a piece of bread with some cheese and olive oil to a piece of bread with a Schnitzel with paprika on top. We ate our food at a square nearby, namely the square where normaly all the antiques are displayed, together with a lot of youngsters that were also enjoying the sunshine.

El Rastro is a typical Spanish market with lots of different kinds of products. On the one hand you have a part with all the new products, such as jewelry, leather jackets and bags, some hippie clothing and souvenirs to remind you of your wonderful trip to Madrid. On the other hand you have the part with the secondhand products such as chandeliers, porselain figurines, old polaroid cameras, secondhand toys and much more. Of course there are also numerous streetartists on El Rastro, for example yesterday there was a guy playing a didgeridoo and an old woman who was playing a hurdy-gurdy. Moreover you can also find a lot of typical Spanish people on Rastro, such as old women with their scarfs. Very lovely.

As Rastro is the place to be on a sunday morning, it is also the place were pickpocketers get together to steal from tourists, so you must be careful with your belongings. It is also very very crowded on Rastro, so you should go very early or very late, because in between it is almost impossible.
So now you know how perfect a sunday morning can be!
